Shwedagon Pagoda

Appreciation of architecture and religious culture at the Shwedagon Pagoda

The peace community on their World Healing Tour by David Wared travelled to Myanmar to visit one of the largest pagodas in the country and to pay homage to the country, its people and their religion.

According to legend, the Shwedagon Pagoda is more than 2500 years old. Four covered entrances lead up to the Shwedagon Pagoda over very long flights of stairs. The main entrances lead past long rows of small shops selling books, Buddha statues, candles, flowers, incense, gold leaf and other offerings. The group admires and appreciates the magnificent architecture in this pagoda. Here everyone can find a place to pray, meditate and be simple, either alone or in community.

Appreciation of Buddha
The group feels the appreciation and honor of Buddha at this holy place and begins with a peace meditation. First, each member lights a candle. By lighting a candle, each member of the group shows his or her personal appreciation and honor to the Buddhist faith. All visitors of the pagoda are invited to meditate together with the group.

A peace meditation shows the unity
Peace meditation is a kind of practiced unity and peaceful connection of people of different faith and the peace community with its philosophy of healing and peace, the philosophy of light awareness. Holy moments are thus exchanged between the peace group from Germany and the people in the pagoda.

Here it is clearly noticeable how peacefully people with different approaches and insights can communicate with each other. One woman participant reports that she is very impressed how easily and smoothly peace can be meditated and communicated at this place. She confirms that the open approach of the group is the first step towards this exchange.
