Water – an essential asset
Free access for everyone or a profit object?
Water is the most precious commodity on earth and the basis for life. More than 70 % of mankind consists of water. The earth’s crust of our planet is also more than 70 % covered with water. However, only 0.3 % of the water on earth is available as drinking water.
Water is the only substance on earth that can occur in three different aggregate states: liquid as water, solid as ice, gaseous as steam.
Water also forms and shapes habitats. The earth’s atmosphere and thus the climate are essentially determined by water. Sufficient regional water resources determine precipitation, which feeds lakes and rivers and provides sufficient groundwater for plant growth and as a drinking water resource for humans and animals. The world’s climate is finely balanced. Fluctuations are noticeable both globally and locally and can manifest themselves in extreme weather events such as floods or droughts.
Almost all living beings require a regular supply of water, which transports nutrients and minerals into the body and is vital for the overall metabolism. Water deficiency leads to serious short-term and long-term health problems. People and animals can fall ill and die. Plant growth is only possible to a limited extent with low quality or comes to a complete standstill. Access to clean drinking water and sanitation was declared a human right in a UN General Assembly resolution in 2010. However, this is not binding under international law.
Water is a fundamental right
Light Awareness goes further here. The right to water is enshrined in a global constitution as a fundamental right for all living beings. The awareness grows that all goods of the earth can be available in the best possible sense for the well-being of all beings. Water becomes a commodity available to all. No profits can be made for a few with water. Instead of waste and exploitation, there are sustainable benefits that primarily include the protection of water. Water is honored, esteemed and appreciated as essential source of information and awareness. These are important steps towards World Peace.
